Allister Langlands, chief executive of John Wood Group PLC (“Wood Group”) recently opened a new 27,000 sq ft engineering office in Glasgow’s NOVA Technology Park.
“We opened our Glasgow office as a long-term strategic initiative to give us an additional resource pool of skilled engineers, improving our ability to manage increasing workloads for North Sea clients and for clients in Russia and North Africa,” said Allister. “We continue to grow our investment programme to extend our international reach and broaden our range of services and we are well positioned to take advantage of the ongoing opportunities in today’s strong energy market. The Group’s global headcount has risen by 3,000 during 2007 and is now over 23,000.”
Wood Group was the first major tenant for Scottish Enterprise Glasgow’s custom-built NOVA Technology Park in the city’s Robroyston, which forms a cornerstone of Glasgow city’s strategy for attracting new high-tech research and development businesses in the future. This is the third office building occupied by Wood Group in Glasgow over the last two years, the Group has outgrown its previous offices as a result of strong growth. During 2007 the Glasgow office doubled in size from 150 to 330, with 20% of staff recruited from other industry sectors. The 330 includes over 20 graduates and trainees.

We aim to further increase our headcount in Glasgow next year, including graduates and trainees, as our existing workload expands and as we take on more overseas business.”
